Chapter 3: The Second Encounter
Peter was now back inside his apartment, he had been sitting
for hours flashing through memory of all that has happen on this day. Peter knew he needed to remember every little
detail in some organize fashion and he tried to think of how he was going to record
all the events that has taking place today.
From being revived from death to coming face to face with vampires. Peter remembered that he had a camcorder,
which he thought would probably be the his best method of recording . Peter thought to himself that he can verbally
relive the day and this would be the most effective way and efficient way to take
an accurate account of all that is happened.
He got up from the kitchen table where he was sitting at and walked into
his bedroom heading for the closet. He
had packed with all his gadgets once he felt that he believed had become
useless to him. Peter opened the closet
door and started moving boxes and wires all out of way in search of his
camcorder that he received sometime ago.
He didn’t realize how much noise he was making until he heard Sarah
turning over, she was asleep on the coach in his living room. He glanced out at her and had to do a double
take, thinking to himself how remarkably beautiful she was: Sarah was about 5’7, maybe an 120 pounds, she
had blond hair with brownish streaks, she also had these ocean blue eyes that
seem to see the goodness in everything.
She slept so peaceful and calm considering all that has happen
tonight. He went back to the closet continuing
rummaging through all his things until he came across his Nikon HDV
Coolvix. Peter always had a hunch that
this camcorder will come in handy one day.
Peter’s tossing, turning, and restlessness went on for about another 45 minutes and finally he almost fell asleep, when he happens to hear someone approaching his door. Peter is tired, his are extremely heavy and he is a bit unsure if what he heard is indeed what he heard, so Peter listened closely again. Some was approaching the door, so Peter jumped up to see who or what it was, as he approached the door, Peter stopped and pausing for a moment, Peter slowly leaned forward to look through the peep hole, at that moment when Peter’s eyes was at eye level to see through the peep hole when he heard a voice that scared him to his core, afraid of moving an inch Peter stood there frozen. The voice outside the door spoke again saying, “Peter, you have nothing to be afraid of at this moment, just open the door and please let me in. I just would like to have a few words with you”. Peter still frozen solid by fear, he had recognized that chilling voice from earlier that night. How in the hell does he know where I live, Peter thought to himself. Again the voice spoke, “Peter, don’t be afraid f I wanted to kill you I could have already, maybe while you were tossing and turning for the last hour, or maybe when you were being such the gentlemen by taking Sarah into your bedroom.” Peter realizing his options are slim at best he slowly opened the door to put a face to this disturbing voice. In he heart he had already known, but there stood Jeremiah, Jeremiah said, “May I come in Peter?” Fear cripples Peter once more, so Peter just stood there. Finally realizing the predicament he was in he said, “Yes come in Jeremiah.” Jeremiah stepped in with a very serious look on his face and said to Peter, “Do you know why I am here Peter? Peter shook his head-indicating no. Jeremiah said, "Do you know what that envelope said?" Peter shook his head again to indicate no; building up the his courage, Peter breathing heavily stood up straight in front of Jeremiah and said that “he was told, no he was given strict directions not to break the crest, but to hand it over to a man named Ta’kur”. Jeremiah replied, “this envelop that you so politely delivered, was a warning to my family and all those like me Peter”, “you do know what I am?” said Jeremiah. Peter letting out a deep sigh; “you and your kind are vampires”, said Peter. “Correct” said Jeremiah, “I am part of the original founding family of vampires, the most vicious predator known to some and to other we are thought of as mere fable. Humans and their hunters have tried hunting us, burning us, shooting at us and yet we live and they have lost countless lives in their pathetic attempts. We are the master-race, superior in every way to humans”. Jeremiah continued, “I am not afraid of a war and neither is my family. When I presented the envelope to my Father he was furious, so furious that he cleared his chambers. Now why would this upset my Father so much? So against his direct orders, Jeremiah has taking it upon himself to solve this little problem. Jeremiah has told all those like him no killing until he gives the order, but what Jeremiah wants to know is who gave Peter this envelope?
Jeremiah continues to lecture Peter that the marking on the envelop appears to be old and Jeremiah’s historian tells him it belonged to a clan they called reapers, but in all the years vampires have walked the earth they have only seen one member of this clan, a man with a Phoenician tattoo with a symbol that meant “Reaper of Souls” that existed long ago, this man was not a Warlock, neither a Lycan nor a Vampire, although there are many other things out there, the ancients revered this man as some other type of supernatural. This man has not been heard from or seen since that meeting between him and Jeremiah’s father centuries ago. Peter released an even deeper sigh he told Jeremiah “that he didn’t know much about the man, other than people over the years have called him Death. The man wore a hood that hid his face from eyesight.” “Peter”, Jeremiah said, “ I want you to pass on a message to this Death. Tell him, that a war is coming and that he is not going to like the outcome” Jeremiah said to Peter, “He must have offered you something for your troubles Peter?” "He did" said Peter, “he gave me back my life, a second chance.” Jeremiah looked at Peter unamused. Jeremiah told Peter he could end that second chance right now, in a much more evocative voice and demeanor, but because Jeremiah considers himself to be a sensible killer, unlike either one of his older brothers and definitely not like his father, since either one of them would rip Peter’s head right off his shoulders. Jeremiah said that he is going to allow Peter to enjoy a few more hours of this second chance, see one last sunrise, maybe even get lucky one last time, and most of all pass his message on to this Reaper, Jeremiah told Peter that in exactly 16 hours; he was going to send a few vampires over to drain him dry. And that Sarah, who seems not to have shown an ounce of fear earlier, well he could think of a few ways he would like to entertain himself with a women like that! Jeremiah told Peter that once he is through with him, the war would have begun and bringing this Reaper’s head home to his Father would earn him bravery and accolade to the end of time.
Realizing the seriousness of his voice, Peter thinks his heart has stopped, time seemed to have stopped as well, he couldn’t move, fear paralyzed him, and to top it all off; he believes that he is still going to die far too early in life. Enjoy your last day on earth Peter, said Jeremiah as he looked to have vanished in thin air right before Peter’s eyes. It was like he was there threatening me and then he was gone. Peter quickly shut the door thinking to himself what has he done and how, why did he get Sarah wrapped up in this mess. He walked back over to the pallet he made on the coach numb to everything around him, his mind shut off from any thinking, as if it’s a defense mechanism because he now understands that he is going to die tonight. He fell into the coach face first into the pallet he had made, hoping and praying that this was a bad dream! He fell asleep exhausted, overwhelmed and slept as though it was my last day on earth.
